- The ADB port on a mac is where the keyboard and mouse are daisy-chained
- in. Each device on there takes a little power. On an old Mac II, this
- *might* be ok but the new ones due not have as large a maximum amount of
- power supplied from this port. A modem uses a lot more power than a mouse
- or keyboard. I've seen 2400's powered in this manner and it is RARE that
- they work without problems. The power being used up causes the keyboard
- to reset and send false keystrokes. The computer thinks you are pressing
- the power key and annoyingly asks "Are you sure you want to shut down
- now?" about once every 10 seconds. If you have a mac with softpower,
- shutting down the computer puts the port in an even lower power state.
- The keyboard then resets because of the power being used by the modem, and
- the computer thinks you pushed the power key and turns itself back on.
-
- A 28.8K modem uses more power than a 2400, so I simply can't see it working.
